HOW GOOD IS MILK OF MAGNESIA FOR OILY SKIN?

Milk of Magnesia, an antacid and laxative, often referred to as a wonderful, and inexpensive primer for people with oily skin. Milk of Magnesia works well but a regular use can do more harm than good to your skin. There are several reasons and they are:
Milk of Magnesia is an effective oil absorber
The active ingredient in Milk of Magnesia is Magnesium Hydroxide, a substance that has the ability to absorb lipids on the skin. The degreasing action of MOM is also enhanced by another of its components, Sodium Hypochlorite, commonly known as bleach. If you smear MOM all over your oily skin, you will soon a great reduction on shine.
The problem with Milk of Magnesia
It is bad for skin because of its alkaline ph. The skin's ph is slightly acidic, which creates a good environment for good bacteria that live on our skin and can protect it from nasty ones, and everything else, that constantly attacks it. When this acidic mantle is damaged, skin becomes dry,and more prone to irritations and even acne.
That is why skincare products are formulated within the skin's pH range(from 5 to 8). Milk of Magnesia has PH of 10.5. This is way too high and if MOM is used regularly, it can cause havoc on your skin.

WHAT DO I DO?
If you have been applying MOM to your skin, just discontinue use. Don't worry there are other ways to deal with oily skin. Here are a few topical “cosmetic” absorbents that can easily replace MOM:

  1. I see why MUAs use this now. Can one use it as a mask, maybe a weekly routine?

  2. Please do not use as a mask, drink plenty of water, mix egg white and oats apply it to your face, wait for 15-20mins wash with lukewarm water. It tightens your pores, leaves your skin supple.
